Andris Biedrins
Eurobasket 2009 ended more than 2 weeks ago but you haven’t heard all the news yet. 5 players from Latvia’s national basketball team were suspended by basketball association ranging from 1 to 3 years because of … you bet. Drinking!
It is said that team leaders were partying in clubs just the night before important games and were rioting against head coaches. The quintet are: Kristaps Valters, Armands Skele, Kaspars Berzins, Andris Biedrins (Golden State Warriors) and Kaspars Kambala.
Probably the most surprising is that NBA player Andris Biedrins also was drinking alcohol with other teammates although being quite important member of his team. Old habits die hard or offseason games aren’t so important not to let yourself relax?

Welcome back to this blog.
So summer is over and my Nike Zoom BB kicks weared off quite a bit during the daily summer basketball routine. Looking at online Nike store shelves I only found 1 interesting model for me and it is Zoom Kobe IV. It’s nice you can customise and make your basketball shoes really unique with NIkeID.
I’ve got really amazed at how much variations you can make and at last decided to count how many different pairs of shoes I can create. It ended up at an astonishing number of nearly 13 billion combinations. If you want to know how I got this number here’s the calculations.
Below is a list of various shoe parts that can be customised with your color of choice:
- Vamp: 13 colors
- Tip and Heel (Reptile Patent + Synthetic leather) 6+13 colors
- Quarter and tongue: 4 colors
- Collar: 13 colors
- Flywire: 7 colors
- Swoosh and Kobe logo: 10 colors
- Heel counter: 5 colors
- Collar lining: 11 colors
- Midsole and Swoosh Border: 2 colors
- Forefoot outsole: 10 colors
- Lace: 13 colors
So If stochastic lesson at school was right there should be 13*(6+13)*4*13*7*10*5*11*2*10*13 = 12.856.844.000 combinations.
I don’t even considered collar and heel IDs because total combinations would end up in astronomical numbers.
So in conclusion every Earth citizen can have at least 2 different Zoom Kobe IV Basketball Shoes. However not everyone is playing basketball in the world.
You can check my first attempt to create unique Zoom Kobe IV shoes here.
Nike also has a feature to save your shoes as a wallpaper to remind buy them soon. No I only have to find that $140 which kicks are currently retailing.

Strange Coincidence
Just saw a strange coincidence in EuroBasket2009 group E where two matches ended exactly the same (71:69). Look at the screenshot above. Russia and F.Y.R. of Macedonia just mirrored the game with France and Greece.
Notice also that another match between Germany and Croatia was only 1 point shy from both teams to end in the same magic combination. Germany just needed one point to get 69 and Croatia one point to get 71.
However I don’t see any special meaning in these numbers so this fact probably go into basketball history trivia only.
Have you seen any similar strange coincidence in basketball? If so, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.

Nice move that can anyone perfect to score being highly pressured from 3 point line.
Kobe Bryant starts to penetrate from 8 meters and drives left, then he pivots to the right and makes one step further, at this point he makes a fake pivot move back to the left and then tries to shoot but his defender recovers quickly enough to meet him with a block.
However this is not the last Kobe’s move. While his defender is still hanging in the air NBA mvp of 2008 pivots 3rd time to the left on his left foot and completes the Yo-Yo move with a jump shot leaving the defender behind his back.
Key points to remember. Yo-Yo move is best when you’re guarded very close otherwise if your opponent is lazy Yo-Yo move will look like you are doing it to yourself.

Se this video about how to warm up and do some basketball drills at the same time. Demonstrated crossover is called crossover up and back. Start with a fake crossover and immediately crossover the ball to the opposite direction either from left to right or vice versa.
